Very angry (OK, Mad As Hell) about American health care based on profit from illness over quality care accessible to all, with all the ills because of that: ranked 37th in the world, political corruption, greed, waste, demonizing the powerless, economic chaos, injustice, fear and hate-mongering.  America should be better than that.  Will it ever be?

Having grown up in Canada, and having watched my father die from a treatable cancer because of the long waits at every stage of the diagnosis/treatment continuum, I issue a sincere “Fuck you!” to supporters of socialized medicine. Not very eloquent, I realize, but most heartfelt.

    Dr. Eusterman,
I don’t know if you remember me or not, but early in my career we worked together on a cardiac rehab project in Albany, Oregon. It’s nice to see that you’re still active…and an activist! You have SO many people who appreciate your group’s efforts and hope you’re feeling the empowerment from the masses who have felt this message was long over-due. Thanks!

    Dear Dr. Eusterman:

I saw and heard your panel this evening on local public tv. You mentioned Tommy Douglas and his fight to bring health care to all Canadians. I am Tommy Douglas’ nephew. While born in Canada, I have lived in Oregon most of my life. I recall vividly, however, his battles, including Dr. strikes and death threats. Would that we had a politician of his courage in the United State. There is a new book on Tommy written by a Saskatoon physician, Dr. Stuart Houston, called Tommy’s Team, the story of the unsung heroes of Tommy Douglas. My father is one of those “heroes”. Dr. Houston has written on the Canadian health care system and is widely known for his work. Again, thanks for your efforts.
